On 16th June 2007, Medair marked the 10th anniversary of its presence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Among its achievements during this time, Medair has distributed more than 1 million kg worth of medicine over 160,000 km sq – an area four times the size of Switzerland - to over 2 million inhabitants in the remote Ituri and Uélé regions.

On 27 March 2007, three men went about their business, washing gold in the river, about 1 hour away on foot from their village of Dahan-e Shala in Raghistan district, Afghanistan. But it was a fatal expedition. An avalanche came suddenly, killing two of them. The surviving man went to get help.

Pakistan: Shelters clinging to the mountainside
In the village of Bhangli, the houses cling to the mountainside at an altitude of 2,000 metres. You can just about make them out, hidden between the trees and the fields of maize. Medair is the only NGO to work here, just 100 km from the epicentre of the earthquake. This region suffered greatly in the aftermath of the earthquake on account of its poverty.
