Role Summary

The Deputy International Programmes Director (DIPD) deputises for, and collaborates with, the International Programmes Director. They contribute to strategic planning and the operational oversight of Medair country programmes. Providing risk management, championing security management and chairing the Crisis Management Team as required. They oversee logistics operations, lead on strategic initiatives with emphasis on our distinct Christian faith approach and the value of our presence.

Project Overview

The International Programmes Department supports the organisation in the implementation of world class humanitarian aid projects and is responsible for timely delivery & quality of our humanitarian services in all our programmes with support from Logistics, HR, Engagement, Finance, Legal Counsel, & IT departments.

Workplace & Conditions

Global Support Office (GSO) position based in Lausanne, Switzerland, Swiss or eligible EU citizens, or those with a valid work permit for Switzerland, can apply. 4 - 6 weeks/year travel to Medair Country Programs.

Responsibilities

• Support key strategic decisions & initiatives for the IP department around innovative funding and the development of better systems and tools to enhance project management within the organisation.

• Lead, support and manage the Logistics Team, and mange several Head of Country Programmes (HCPs). Provide deputisation of the IPD when required to allow for business continuity.  

• Risk Management – Support HCPs to deliver against good financial management and controls and ensure that security management processes are strongly embedded in each Country Programmes.  

• Institutional and Public Donor compliance – champion compliance with institutional and public donor requirements, including at vetting, certification, proposals and reporting stages.

• Team life - Integration & outworking of Christian faith in all daily work aspects, decision-making, leadership & management style and communications.

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies  

• Master’s degree in the social sciences or a humanitarian-related subject  

• Excellent English (spoken and written) + French desirable

• Experience of a senior level in humanitarian organisations with people management, preferably Medair

• Experienced in designing and embedding organisational systems and processes

• Logistics oversight experience would be desirable
