Project Coordinator

Role Summary

Working as a senior member of a diverse team who are committed to serve the world’s most vulnerable with practical and compassionate care, the Project Coordinator manages the implementation and coordination of the designated field projects. Providing leadership, strategic direction, management and evaluation of all aspects of the Medair projects, the Project Coordinator also plays a key role in liaison with local authorities and other relevant stakeholders, team leadership, security and access negotiations.

Project Overview

Emergency nutrition, health, WASH and food security projects targeting displaced, conflict- and drought-affected vulnerable populations in central and southern Afghanistan.

Workplace & Conditions

Central or southern Provinces of Afghanistan where Medair is operating; basic living conditions.

Responsibilities:

• Security Management: Monitor and review the security; Ensure security plans and protocols are updated; Oversee and monitor staff adherence to security protocols

• Project Management : Oversee the overall implementation of the projects in the location, supporting the project managers in day-to-day decision making and monitoring progress.

• Representation: Represent Medair externally in the province, developing and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders including local authorities, communities and other humanitarian actors.

• Financial Management: Monitoring spending of project and base budgets, supporting Project Managers and Project Support Manager to manage their budgets well and ensuring donor compliance.

• Staff Management: line manage the Project Manager(s) and Project Support Manager, ensure open and clear communication between departments and build and effective team.

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:

• University degree in relevant subject such as Management / Development Studies / Business Administration  

• Language skills: Excellent English (spoken and written)

• 2 years of post-qualification experience in a management position, preferably in a relief environment

• 1 year experience with a relief and rehabilitation NGO or other agency engaged in humanitarian aid

• Experience of security management in previous roles

Behavioural Skills

• Strong servant leadership skills with a consultative management style

• Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner, with good understanding of cross-cultural issues  

• Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels

• Able to oversee multiple tasks, prioritising and delegating as required

• Good communication skills
