Roving Country Director (CD) Remote
Starting Date / Initial Contract Details
1st of February 2025. Part-time, based on availability. Paid per deployment.
Role Summary
The Roving CD provides interim senior leadership cover in established programs or new emergency responses. They lead in program and support activities, including donor relations, grant management, external representation, legal compliance, and project implementation. They work closely with the senior management team in country and are part of the Global Emergency Response Team (G-ERT) and the International Department of GSO.
Project Overview
The purpose of Medair’s multi-sector relief programs is to save lives and alleviate human suffering by working in static and emergency response locations, with vulnerable populations and providing essential life-saving health, shelter and WASH services. This Roving CD position will help bridge the gap when senior management (e.g. CD, DCD or Emergency PC) is critically needed in established and new country programs.
Workplace & Conditions
Contract terms depend on individual availability with payment per deployment. Deployment length and availability are pre-agreed, and a retainer contract is established—please enquire for more details.
Responsibilities:
• Program leadership: Oversee and lead implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of activities per project proposals and donor guidelines; ensure high-quality standards are maintained.
• Operations management: Ensure timely, budget-compliant strategic objectives, effective team communications, adherence to policies, and represent Medair in relevant coordination meetings while keeping all stakeholders informed.
• Finance management: Supervise budget management and expenditures, ensure compliance with donor regulations, and implement fraud prevention controls with necessary staff training.
• People management: Promote good people management, consultative leadership, ethical compliance, and reflect Medair’s vision and values through effective team building and communication.
• Security management: Ensure safety and security of people and assets, develop contingency plans, lead Crisis Management Team (if needed), and maintain security procedures and awareness.
Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:
• MSc in Management; Development Studies; Business Administration or in a relevant technical subject.
• 5+ years in management of complex humanitarian emergencies. Prior Medair senior management experience required.
• Excellent working English, working knowledge of French desirable.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft and ERP systems.
• Experienced in the design, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of humanitarian programmes in emergency contexts.
