Role Summary 

Develop and manage the implementation of health and nutrition projects, ensuring that the project activities are in line with the objectives, time frame, and budget. Provide technical support and leadership to health and nutrition staff. Develop new proposals and budgets to meet the needs of the vulnerable population in Khartoum State. Lead the monitoring and evaluation of projects, and apply lessons learned to improve quality of projects implementation.

Project Overview 

Medair Sudan is a complex and dynamic country programme due to instability related to conflict and politics. Medair returned to Sudan in 2020, and is currently implementing projects in vulnerable communities, in health and nutrition sectors, with components of WASH and MPHSS.  There are plans to expand the current programme into new areas, as well as growing and strengthening local partnerships. 

Workplace & Conditions 

Based in Khartoum; as access and security dictates, this role may also work from Port Sudan.

Responsibilities

Health & Nutrition Project Management: Manag H&N projects to meet the project objectives within budget and time frame and report promptly any operational concerns to line manager and in-country H&N advisor. 

Staff Management: Line-manage the H&N team members, including day-to-day management, development and training, appraisals, etc.  Organize and lead team meetings, and appraisals.  

Financial Management: Manage the budget for the assigned project(s) and ensure all expenses are according to budget and meet the Medair standards, including accountability and good governance. 

Communication and Coordination: Participate in H&N coordination meetings, Medair internal trainings, and other working groups or meetings, representing Medair and feeding back to the H&N staff.

Logistics: Provide leadership with the nutrition, health, logistics and finance staff to ensure items are procured, transported, stored, managed and accounted for correctly. 

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies

University degree in a relevant subject, preferably nutrition or public health. 

Higher level qualification, preferably in nutrition or relevant field such as nursing/midwifery/doctor/community-based training.  

Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written), basic or intermediate Arabic is desirable.

At least 2 years of experience in the NGO sector, preferably in Sudan.

At least 2 years of supervisory management experience.

Behavioural Skills  

Strong servant leadership skills.

Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner, with good understanding of cross-cultural issues.

Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels.

Able to oversee multiple tasks, prioritising and delegating as required.

Good communication skills.
