Don’t Look Away: The story of Aisha
Can you imagine watching your child suffer from hunger, unable to provide them with food?
This Christmas, the situation is critical. Children under 5 in some of the world's poorest countries are facing a life-threatening hunger crisis and they need your help. In Afghanistan, half of all children under 5 do not have enough food, putting their lives at risk from severe acute malnutrition.
Your gift can make all the difference.
Could you give 60 CHF to feed a child and save a life?
Baby Aisha’s story
Aisha lives in southern Afghanistan. While we cannot share her exact location, she resides in an isolated region with extremely limited access to healthcare, nutritious food and safe water. Her father has no stable income and relies on a small plot of farmland which, until recently, provided just enough food for the family. However, due to drought and the ongoing effects of conflict, his land can no longer produce enough to feed them—and Aisha is suffering.
Last month, her grandmother, Maryam, brought her to a Medair clinic seeking help. At just 7 months old, Aisha weighed only 5kg - the average weight of a 2-month-old baby in Switzerland. Maryam shared:
“Aisha was crying all the time - she was coughing, and her hands were cold.”
Aisha urgently needs life-saving treatment - and tragically, she is not alone.
Right now, 1 in 2 children under 5 in Afghanistan do not have enough food. They need your help today.
A Simple Solution
The issues faced by the world’s poorest countries are complex, but the solution for malnourished children is simple: a six-week course of special supplementary food is often all it takes to save a child's life. This Christmas, you can provide a complete course of treatment for a child suffering from malnutrition.
Maryam, Aisha’s grandmother, shared her hope for her granddaughter’s recovery:
“I trust these kind doctors. I feel they are like angels, and I hope my granddaughter will make a complete recovery in their hands.”
Right now, we are working on the ground in Afghanistan, running health and nutrition clinics in remote, hard-to-reach communities. Last year, 94% of the patients treated in our nutrition clinics were discharged as cured!
But we urgently need your help to keep our clinics in Afghanistan and other countries supplied with the therapeutic food and medical supplies children so desperately need.
Here’s what your gift could do:
CHF 30 becomes CHF 60 and could treat SIX malnourished babies with therapeutic milk
CHF 60 becomes CHF 120 and could provide life-saving nutrition treatment for TWO children
CHF 112 becomes CHF 224 and could provide SIXTEEN families with food for a week
This Christmas, you can feed a child and save a life.
Could you give today?
Yes, I will feed a child today
